NASHVILLE – Red Boiling Springs High School students Haley Willis and Jadon Halliburton were in Nashville March 17-19 for the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association’s annual Youth Leadership Summit. The students were proudly sponsored by Tri-County Electric.

“I would like to thank Tri-County Electric for sponsoring my trip to Nashville during the Youth Leadership Summit. I learned plenty of valuable information about electric cooperatives, team building, leadership, and the Tennessee state government. I met a variety of people and had fun and new experiences. I will use this opportunity to better myself and my work ethic as I head into the world.” said Haley Willis, Red Boiling Springs High School. Jadon Halliburton, Red Boiling Springs High School added “I had a great time making new friends and learning valuable lessons that will impact my future.”

During their stay in Nashville, the 46 delegates participated in leadership development activities as well as learned more about what an electric cooperative is and does for a community. Attendees visited the YMCA for team building and scavenger hunt exercises. Discussions were also held over how to meet and greet your state representatives. The delegates had the opportunity to put those skills into action at the State Capital with their own representatives and the Secretary of State. They even had the opportunity to visit Nashville classics like the Goo Goo Cluster Store, the Country Music Hall of Fame and see Andy Grammer at The Ryman.

“At TECA, we’re all about investing in the future,” says BJ Bernard, TECA’s vice president of member services. “With the Youth Leadership Summit, we want to make a real difference in these young people’s lives, whether that’s socially or just by teaching them how a cooperative works. We hope to be a steppingstone on their path to becoming the next generation of leaders in their communities.”
